photochem example data

I tried to run get_pathways.py on photochem_modern_earth example, but noticed that the data for number density and rates for chempath input are a bit weird. There are many negative values spanning a very wide range (e-200 to e+200). I also tried to run photochem using run_photochem_model.py to generate the data again, but some input files are not available (files in ModernEarthFlux).

Do you know what might be happening to the data and where I can get the input files for photochem? Thanks!

Hi,

The problem with the weird numbers could be related to the fact that I was using binary numpy input files with double precision. If you do not read these files as double-precision numbers, you will get weird values. I updated the input files to use h5py (https://docs.h5py.org/en/stable/) files. To run the photochem model to perform a pathway analysis, you will need to make a couple of modifications to the photochem model. Chempath requires input information about transport, rainout, and distributed input fluxes that is not outputted by default in photochem. The changes required to output this information are outlined here: Nicholaswogan/photochem@main...DanyIvan:photochem:chempath

After including these changes in the photochem code, install the photochem model from source so that the new code is included in your installation. Instructions on how to install photochem from source can be found: https://github.com/DanyIvan/photochem
