Inspector should indicate if there's an error attempting to get an object's self-description

Currently, it appears that if an error is signaled while trying to get an object's self-description (print string), the field is left blank. It would be better if it showed that there was an error.
Probably not as just a string, maybe a different color or emphasis or both.
