Gifski only opens as a background process on Windows 10

Gifski had been working for me just fine until two days ago. When I tried opening it, the program window appeared for less than a second and then disappeared, only to check Task Manager and see it running as a background process.

I tried reinstalling Gifski, restarting my PC and even booting into Safe Mode, but none of these things worked.

That's been a consistent issue for me as well. Over the past few months, anytime I try to install Gifski, it will flash for a micro-second before relegating itself to the background processes. The Gifski window closes down almost instantaneously, so you cannot tab to it or swap to it by any means, and if you try to open the program again, it will simply open more background processes. All you can do is force-close them via Task Manager.

It has worked on some occasions - usually after a fresh Windows install, so I believe the program is conflicting with something somehow, but in 9/10 cases, the installation will simply become unusable post-install. I've tried messing with the compatibility, efficiency modes, assigning different priorities in task manager, installing it to different drives (etc) -- but no matter what I do, this program will decide it doesn't want to work.

There are two different kinds of gifski for Windows - a GUI version, and a CLI version. If you double-click the CLI version from explorer, it will just flash a CLI window and exit. Make sure you install the right version.

Everything I've said is aimed squarely at the GUI version for Windows, which is the only version I've ever used. Once installed via the MSI and opened, you can see the GUI window flicker briefly, then disappear, leaving nothing but a Gifski process that you can find via Task Manager. There is no way to tab to it, and trying to re-open the application will simply create another Task Manager process with no way to use or close it, forcing you to manually terminate the process(es).

I've tried different versions, repairing installations, installing to different drives, messing with compatibility & priorities, efficiency mode, and anything I can think of, but ultimately, it has only worked on 2/10 occasions over the past months, typically after a fresh Windows reinstallation or during some unknown conditions, and even then, there's no guarantee it will stay working. I had it installed two months ago after purchasing a new computer, and it just happened to install and work fine, but for some reason, it has once again returned to the 'flicker and gone' state after trying to use it again today - and that is precisely what happened during all attempts to install the GUI and check it out for the first time on the previous computer.

It's a real shame, because after having briefly used it a few times, I would prefer it over the likes of Photoshop, ScreenToGif, GIMP (etc), but for whatever reason, it simply doesn't work properly on the rare occasions I want to put together some GIFs, and I wish I knew why.

Tried again 3 months later - same issue. Installing the Windows MSI and trying to open Gifski simply causes its window to flicker for a fraction of a second and then vanish, leaving you no choice but to force-close the application using Task Manager. Wish I knew why, but alas.
