My team and I are taking on this issue as a university assignment.

Even after exploring Jabref, we are still not sure what exactly the enhancement requires. Hence, we thought to contact you and see what you had in mind.

We interpreted the issue to be potentially implemented in the following ways:

  1. When a Mathematics Subject Classification ID number is added in the Keyword box when an entry is created, and a user hovers over the keyword, the Tooltip appears with the corresponding Subject Classification:
    e.g.
    Keyword: 20-02
Tooltip: Research exposition (monographs, survey articles) pertaining to group theory

  2. A switched case from option 1, a Mathematics Subject Classification keyword is added in the Keyword box when an entry is created, and a user hovers over the keyword, the Tooltip appears with the corresponding Subject Classification ID number:
    e.g.
Keyword: Research exposition (monographs, survey articles) pertaining to group theory
    Tooltip: 20-02

  3. A Mathematics Subject Classification field (which shows up in Bibtex as MSC2010) is added to the creation of a BibEntry, with the Tooltip appearing to explain the field
    e.g.
    Hover over MSC2010 field
Tooltip: Enter the Mathematics Subject Classification

Thank you for your insight - it is much appreciated.

Thanks for your interest! What I had in mind is your first bullet point. In addition, it would be good to have a button at the right side of the keywords field that converts MSC-numbers to the description. Another extension would be to add the conversion as a "cleanup action" so that people can automatically apply it after import.

Your second point is also a good idea, but not as urgent as the first one. The third one would need special support from biblatex or bibtex styles.

Hi there,
This is an interesting feature. I'd like to try adding this.

Image

If I'm understanding this correctly, when hovering over 13C05 for instance in this image you'd like "Structure, classification theorems for modules and ideals in commutative rings" as a tooltip.
