Average/aggregate climate measurements and bioclimatic indices (both for present/recent conditions and future projections) are among the most used variables in (both explanatory and predictive) Species Distribution Models (SDM).

For that purpose, the CHELSA datasets are considered a reference, of which the following can be of great potential interest for Ecology:

• Bioclimatic variables (CHELSA-bioclim);
• Long-term climatological means (CHELSA-climatologies); and
• Drought indices (CHELSA-drought-indicies).
