Download wind resource data from WIND Toolkit API

The WIND Toolkit API provides access to several datasets for wind resource data around the world: https://developer.nrel.gov/docs/wind/wind-toolkit/

The datasets use several different file formats, and the data provided by the datasets is different. The files for some of the endpoints are missing some data required by SAM's wind power model (see zip file attached below).

SAM's wind data download feature is limited to the wtk-download endpoint: https://developer.nrel.gov/docs/wind/wind-toolkit/wtk-download/ because it delivers files in the SAM CSV Format for Wind format that contain data required by SAM's wind power model.

LK script that tests WIND Toolkit API endpoints (as of January 2025) with spreadsheet of test results: download-and-test-wind-files.zip

This is a two-part feature request:

• Ideally all of the WIND Toolkit endpoints deliver files in the same format that contain data required by SAM's wind power model
• SAM (and PySAM's ResourceTools script) downloads WIND Toolkit files from all endpoints that deliver files that work with the wind power model
