Setup

  • MediaWiki | 1.31.1 (2958311)20. Dez. 2018, 05:15
  • PHP | 7.2.13-1+020181207100540.13+stretch1.gbpf57305 (apache2handler)
  • Maps | 7.0.0

Issue

OpenLayers additionally showed the coordinates of the current mouse position when hovering over a map in the bottom right of the map. Leaflet currently does not. This helps a little when determining the coordinates of an object without having to use the external OpenStreetMap maps.

Not related to copycoords, also works on basic map: https://www.semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/Maps_examples/OpenLayers_basic_map

Why are you requesting this just for Leaflet? Google Maps also does not have this.

And why the "always"? This seems like something only a few people would want or is only useful in some cases, so I'm very hesitant to enable something like this by default.

Indeed. I just picked the wrong example since I was already on the page.

I see Leaflet as the direct successor in features and functionality. Since last June last year GoogleMaps is completely off my radar and admittedly I did not think about this service at all. So yes, GoogleMaps could offer this too.

And why the "always"?

Since it was always on for OpenLayers. However something like showcoords=yes may indeed very well be preferable

Are you reporting this because it is a difference with OpenLayers or is someone running into a problem by not having this feature?

Both, it may be helpful to manually find the coordinates on a map without the need to got to osm. However being able to copy the coordinates of the mouse position as opposed to the marker position as copycoords does will be much better in comparison.
