Currently I am mixing the following 2 things together: an MCP that does agentic search well https://github.com/bitbonsai/mcp-obsidian and a plugin for OpenCode/Claude https://github.com/derek-larson14/obsidian-claude-sidebar

Is this SKILL compatible with the MCP for trickier questions?

Yes, with one caveat: this skill is compatible at the workflow/file level, but it does not currently have a first-class MCP integration layer of its own.

tutor-setup and tutor work by reading and writing a normal markdown-based StudyVault/ on disk. So if your Obsidian MCP setup can access that same vault, and your Claude/OpenCode workflow can run the skill, they should complement each other well:

• use tutor-setup to generate the StudyVault
• use Obsidian + MCP for retrieval/navigation on harder questions
• use tutor for structured quizzing and concept-level progress tracking

So the short answer is: yes, they should be compatible in practice, because the integration point is the vault itself.
