The Signed SOCR Java Applets Updated to JVM 6.39 to Resolve Security Vulnerability (February 2013)

Due to the discovery of recent Java security problems Oracle
recommends all users update their JVM/Java version 7.11+ (or version 6.39+).
This update raises the default security level for Java applets from
Medium to High, which means that the user is always warned before any
unsigned application is run to prevent silent exploitation. To help with
resolving such vulnerabilities, the entire SOCR Java applet suite was
recompiled to include the latest updates. As a result, some of the SOCR
applets, and their functionalities, may appear different.

PCA added to SOCR Analyses (January 2013)

Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is a mathematical procedure that
allows significant reduction of dimensionality in multivariate data.
PCA transforms a number of possibly correlated variables into a fewer number
of uncorrelated variables using orthogonal transformations. We added PCA to
the list of SOCR Analyses as it is a useful statistical technique that
has many applications.

The largest neuroimaging study of obesity and brain tissue loss uses SOCR libraries. (April 2010)

Reporting in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, UCLA investigators found that the FTO obesity gene is associated with a loss of brain tissue. This puts more than a third of the U.S. population at risk for a variety of diseases, such as Alzheimer's. This study used the SOCR computational libraries and SOCR Analyses to identify multivariate relations between subject demographics and imaging data.

In March 2010, we upgraded the SOCR user web-statistics mechanism. Now we provide anonymous access to dynamic and complete statistics on the web-users of the main SOCR server (www.SOCR.ucla.edu). The new SOCR web-statistics architecture allows anyone to see anytime the locations and types of the last 500 SOCR users. Each user is uniquely counter daily, irrespective of usage-time or number of SOCR resources they used. Other servers have separate tracking mechanisms (see: http://wiki.stat.ucla.edu/socr/index.php/SOCR_Servers).

Improved SOCR Mixture Modeling Distribution is released (October 23, 2008)

A significantly improved SOCR Mixture distribution is released, which enables the user to specify the number of mixture Normal distributions and their parameters (means and standard deviations). This new applet demonstrates how unimodal-distributions come together as building-blocks to form the backbone of many complex processes. In addition, this applet allows computing probability and critical values for these mixture distributions, and enables inference on such complicated processes. Extensive demonstrations of mixture modeling in 1D, 2D and 3D are available on the SOCR Wiki pages (http://wiki.stat.ucla.edu/socr/index.php/SOCR_EduMaterials_Activities_2D_PointSegmentation_EM_Mixture).
