Trigger characters for completion

Hi,
I was wondering if it was possible to trigger a completion with a character ie '.' or '(' in auto_insert mode.
Lets say I have to access 'Car.engine', I could select 'Car' in auto_insert, then type '.' which would accept the completion and import the module to the file.
