There are several papers that could be written about specifc implentations but need a general paper that can be used as a reference. As long as the online documentation is in good shape can point to that as "suppl material"?

Did this happen? Will it happen?

Thanks for the ping @lucas-wilkins sadly phase it is "almost" there still waiting mostly for me to finish my bit. Then phase 2 of reading as a whole and standardizing and probably chopping some begins. So actually NOT stale ... just slow going 😃

Since there is a repository for the paper, maybe this issue doesn't belong here. @butlerpd

Hummm... not sure that it belongs as an issue in the new repo... not does it look like a discussion item? Perhaps in fact this can be closed at this point since the new repo was made, Then issues can be placed there as needed?

With some thought I agree with you @lucas-wilkins. Given we have a repo (https://github.com/SasView/publication) for this and work is progressing I'm going to close this ticket as obsolete. There is another discussion item about what to do about it and any tickets about progress should go against the publications repo.
