Can't run non flatpack gnome apps after use

Like the title says. Even after purging readwaita and deleting my .config and /config. Any idea what went wrong and how I can get my system running again?

Can I get the specs of your machine? This is the first time that I'm hearing about this so I have no idea what could be going on.

The only thing I can think of immediately is if some settings from Libportal got messed up. Try running:

gsettings reset org.gnome.shell.extensions.user-theme name

gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme

gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.interface accent-color 

All Rewaita really does is move some css files into ~/.config/gtk-{3 and 4}.0, so I'm not sure what could have broken your desktop there.

Also what apps specifically are breaking? Because I can run all my RPM Gnome apps like Totem or Parental Controls without any issues. Is it just all apps that aren't Flatpaks?

Thanks very much, those commands seem to have resolved the issue. Just as an FYI, it was not all apps, just gtk 4 apps I believe. I could still use Firefox and sublime text, but could not use things like the terminal, gnome-tweak, etc.

I seem to have narrowed down the issue further. In gnome-tweaks, changing the legacy applications to my custom theme starts hanging everything except legacy apps. Any idea ho I can fix that?

I don't think this is a Rewaita related issue then.

The problem is the org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme schema which is what gets changed in gnome-tweaks with legacy applications seems to be breaking something. Rewaita doesn't actually change any desktop settings, if a css file gets put into either of the .config directories then the theme will change automatically without having to go into Tweaks.

If you are running some geriatric or very new version of Gnome then I would expect this issue to get patched on update. I am running Gnome 48.5 on Fedora 42 which does not seem to have this problem.
