How to improve error messages when something does not compile?

I feel this is a FAQ, but I cannot find a reference. Everytime I have an error in my code, ts-node reports

This does not really help me. I need to stop and run tsc to discover the error message. What can I fix?

In my case, I got the exact same error when having a compilation error in my script (which should have outputed the compilation error instead of whatever this is, so it's definitely a bug from ts-node)
