Hi Chris,

Thank you for creating and maintaining such a beautiful and inspiring program. I’ve been using Sequencer64 and Seq66 for many years now, and I’m still a big fan, it’s been a constant part of my setup.

As a small way to give back, I’m trying to contribute by uploading a manual that documents how to install Seq66 on Ubuntu Studio 25.10. I hope it can be useful to other users and help make getting started a little easier.

This was very helpful since I just tried to install seq66 on a new machine with Ubuntu 24.04.

During configuration I received the missing qmake/qt error:

checking for qmake-qt6... no
checking for qmake-qt5... no

Tried with installing qmake6 (sudo apt-get install qmake6) which didn't fix this issue.

So I installed all the packages you suggest in your manual:

sudo apt install -y \
    build-essential \
    git \
    automake \
    autoconf \
    libtool \
    pkg-config \
    qtbase5-dev \
    qttools5-dev-tools \
    qttools5-dev \
    libqt5widgets5 \
    libasound2-dev \
    libjack-jackd2-dev \
    liblo-dev \
    libc6-dev \
    libpcre2-dev \
    qt5-qmake \
    libudev-dev

Maybe also add libatopology-dev to this list. This fixed another not found remark during configuration. See also this issue about libasound: #132

Attached also a log of my terminal after having run ./configure after installing the packages mentioned. Not sure if there could be some issues going forward, but ./configure did run through now.

Now I ran make and receive the following error:

Tried to do autoreconf -i -f but now my system complains about not having Autoconf >= 2.72 installed (version 2.72 or higher is required).
Maybe one should set the required autoconf version to a lower version which is supported with the current stable LTS release of Ubuntu which is 24.04.3 LTS (at the time of writing this issue comment) with the next release of seq66.

As a result of the above process, I upgraded to Ubuntu 25.04 and autoreconf -i -f worked and I could proceed with the installation process make, make install and seq66 installed successfully.

Thanks! Been busy with the holidays and another github project that's been kicking my ass. I will tweak the document as per the above, add it to the repo, and refer to it in INSTALL.

Also, when I get autoconf errors, I do a "./bootstrap --full-clean" and then "./bootstrap -er" etc. This happens sometimes when I move between Debian and Arch.

One thing I did was removed the chat_gpt references; didn't seem to affect access to the file. How did that reference get in? Copilot?

just running autoreconf -i -f solved it for me

coming from seq24 (and missing it for over a decade), I was very happy to stumble on this. Thank you for your work
