ECAL/HCAL RecHits view overlap

When displaying ECAL & HCAL RecHits (eg "ECalRechitCollection", "reducedEgamma", "reducedEBRecHits" from MiniAOD) it seems the display boxes get all their coordinates scaled by the energy. It would be better to rather only scale the "tower height", as otherwise a high energy RecHit has also its sectional area scaled and overlaps with all its neighbours, resulting in a hard-to-read plot:

Would you like the RecHits to be drawn as lines instead of boxes?

In this case, the RecHits can be drawn with the REveStraightLine set object instead of REveBoxSet. A new proxy builder needs to be implemented.

As a workaround, you can turn off the visibility of the tower that hides other towers. In the summary view, there is an arrow-down circle icon next to the pencil icon. By clicking it, you get the item controller. For each element in the collection, you can toggle the tower's visibility on or off.

I have attached a screenshot showing how I sorted the elements in the rechit collection by energy. Using the element index, I have set the RnrSelf value to false in the item controller.

I am aware that I can hide individual elements, but that is not very convenient.
I would rather have the rechits drawn in the same way as the CaloTowers are rendered (see below). Probably it could be possible to use the same code.
The current ECAL CaloTower visualisation can only show at "CaloTower" granularity (ie at a block of 5x5 rechits), and not at individual rechit level.

There is already a CaloTower-like visualization infrastructure available.

Anything of type reco::Candidate or that inherits from it can be displayed as CaloTower. The job of proxy builder is to fill the TH2 histogram:

Looking at the current rec hit proxy builder, we could retrieve eta and phi values from the geometry corners and fill the histogram bin with the hit’s Et value.

Yes that is what I had in mind. I think it would be a more convenient visualisation.
