Avo 4 - Plan, Feedback and Ideas

Let's start a conversation around what Avo 4 can be.
A few things we were thinking about:

• Themable interface + Tailwind 4 (Theming + dark mode + Tailwind v4 #631)
• REST API (REST API #1146)
• HTTP Adapter (HTTP resource (Resource Adapters) #1418)
• Improved search UI (Improved Inline Search #3775, Improved global search #3774)
• Collaboration (Collaboration tools #1413)
• Kanban and calendar views (Kanban view #3773 and Calendar view #1321)
• WYSIWYG improvements + Make the editor easily extendable by the user (WYSIWYG improvements #3781)
• Keyboard shortcuts Keyboard shortcuts #2665

Maybe

• PWA? (check out these guides https://x.com/yarotheslav/status/1907181509758369799)
• Hotwire Native?
• reactive fields (Reactive fields #2983)
• Namespaced resources (Avo::Resources::Course::Link) ?
• Migrate controller related logic from resource class attributes to controller methods (ex: index_query, find_scope, ...)

Not doing right now

• Workflows? Might not do it. Sounds like a big feature in itself. Maybe it's better to integrate with n8n or zapier?

All great ideas... But of all these ideas, I think REST API and Workflows might be the most revolutionary as they open up infinite more possibilities of what you can build with Avo. The ability to quickly turn your resource adapters and actions into an API would reduce the cost of app development significantly, particularly for those apps that offer some sort of API or need an internal API for the mobile app counterpart.

I am also trying to build an mobile app which will consume the CRM build using Avo. It would be very helpful if we can have it.

• Ability to pull some of fields defined in Resource A to Sidebar of Resource B. Callable views
• Ability to show Records (Array Records) in Dashboard.

Advanced rhino (or other) editor please. We're currently using TinyMCE but it doesn't integrate well with ActiveStorage. Example of TinyMCE configuration which we use to showcase the features. Not all of these are available using out of the box rhino, tiptap or trix fields:

Can you please open up a "WYSIWYG improvements" GitHub issue?
I'd like to collect all feedback in one place.

Also, please explain a bit what some of those options do. And maybe if you can throw in a video recording of you using it so we know what those options mean.
Most of them can be implemented, but sometimes, we don't know what they mean or do.

So yeah. let's make the WYSIWYG editor the best out there.

I did this in tiptap issue before focus shifted to rhino — #2900 (comment)

I'll copy it here:

• Uploading files and inserting as images (drag-n-drop if possible)
• Block styles (header 1/2/3/…, paragraph, etc)
• Text/Block alignment
• Undo / Redo
• Changing links to open in either new window or same window
• Font family, size, color
• Tables
• Horizontal line
• Clear selected text formatting

Since that comment I've added extra features to our TinyMCE setup:

• Image class selector which adds Bootstrap's img-fluid to the img tag
• video format for inserting embedded YT videos which adds Bootstrap's ratio ratio-16x9 class to the block

This thread is here to gather an overview an feedback ideas. Each individual idea/piece of feedback/fleshed out feature should have it's own issue so we can assign it and track it properly.

1. Visibility: hide and show field if parent field has value
2. Set Value: set value of a filed as calculated from parent field
