"Check What's New" banner forces me to check what's new

Describe the bug

I opened Bazaar today and was greeted by a friendly-looking banner asking me to check what's new. I'm excited to hear of new updates, but my problem today is that I was crunching at the end of the workday and I did not want to check what was new. I was actually at the limit of my meat brain's context window and just needed to quickly install something to wrap up my last tasks.

I need to stress that I had no capacity left allow more information like what is new in Bazaar into my head, without losing focus on the work I was trying to wrap up in the next few minutes.

But there it was. The banner, with no "x" to dismiss, no fading away when I navigated around, and even no disappearing after a frustrated closing/reopening of Bazaar.

Just a "friendly-looking" banner holding both my attention and my precious vertical screen real estate ransom, until I submit and check what's new. Which then opened a distracting popup modal for me to close.

I know this probably isn't a big deal to a lot of people, but please give me a button to banish the banner when I am too busy (or stubborn) to check what's new.

I'll talk to a designer about it. This issue is beyond melodramatic though, and it isn't my fault that you are stubborn

Adw.Banners can only have one Button https://gnome.pages.gitlab.gnome.org/libadwaita/doc/main/class.Banner.html 💀
So either Bazaar will have to Handcraft its own Banner class, convince upstream to make Adw.Banners to be able to have 2 Buttons or switch to use something like a Adw.(Alert-)Dialog for the "Whats's New" messages. The last option would make them dismissable, but more intrusive and annoying tho.

I myself am also rather annoyed by this undismissable dialog, which is why I found this issue. I would be happy with a toggle in the settings that turns it off tho.

I'm not sure there is reason to venture into derision and name calling; Not everyone's brain works like yours. I'm also not sure we're the stubborn ones in this case. I can't think of any other application I use on any device that insists I view the changelog - something that is generally unimportant to most users unless there is a rollout of a new headlining feature or significant UX change. I imagine there are a lot of us out there who find this decision baffling.

This could be handled like the Jellyfin Roku App changelog. It pops on launch automatically and can be dismissed from there. That requires one action from the user to resume normal, expected operations - not the two (banner click, then dismiss) Bazaar currently does. It may not sound like much but, for those of us living on the edge of wit's end, it's a significant change. Additionally, there is a user preference to opt-out of it altogether which would be lovely regardless of the number of actions you land on.

@ajdunevent The dialog also asks for donations. I don't know if you are aware, but I don't get paid to work on bazaar, and the amount I do currently receive through donations is not nearly enough to live off of. I get around $200 in GitHub sponsors a month and ko fi donations have slowed down massively to a trickle. I'm very appreciative of everyone who currently donates, but, especially relative to the work I put in and have previously put in, that is not nearly enough to match the cost of living where I live.

That's not even the main issue though. I go through extra efforts to ensure bazaar otherwise stays out of the users way. So when someone comes here to write some patronizing issue the second I dare to engage the user with a friendly dialog like this which makes them aware of the ongoing development process, yes, I don't care how I come off in my response. I'm not a customer support desk.

Still, I want this person to have a good time using bazaar! So I'm literally communicating with a gnome designer regarding this issue at the moment, as I said I would. I would appreciate if people stop lecturing me.

I appreciate the update and follow-through. Please accept my genuine apologies if I came off as patronizing or lecturing. I sometimes forget to keep in mind my own advice: No everyone's brain works like mine. I am grateful your work and hope to some day be able to contribute in an impactful way.
