I'm experiencing the exact same issue. I didn't change anything in the project — it just suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason. I'm using Herd on macOS Sequoia with PHP 7.4. It works fine when running php artisan serve, so it seems to be an issue with Herd itself.

Exact same problem here. Error appeared from one day to the next. There have been no changes to bootstrap/app.php or related files in years. This happens on Monterrey as well as on a brand new machine running Sequoia using PHP74

Yes, it just started working again for me without anything having been changed. Not sure if Herd could have updated itself with a fix.

Same issue after upgrading to Herd 1.20.3

More weird after the issue getting fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling, now after few days the problem raised again.

But I think found the issue what cause this to be happened.

Check any php74-fpm in the background after "Stop All" and Exit the Herd, if any php74-fpm still running, just kill them all and the run Herd again, the problem getting fixed without uninstall and reinstall these time
