Question: control TV possible?

Would it be possible to implement the ability to remote control the TV? Like start/top playback, volume control, but also start a certain movie on Netflix/Jellyfin/...
I mean is it possible API wise given what's being exposed from the system to this app.

The Android MediaSession API allows to send basic commands: play/pause/fast forward/reverse/stop (availability of the commands depend on the app). I never tried this on a TV I'm not sure Android TV apps support this properly.

For the moment this project only publishes data to an MQTT broker, it doesn't receive commands. This would also require maintaining a persistent connection to the broker which is currently not handled.

If you use Home Assistant, there is already a way to send these commands: mainly the Android TV Remote integration or the Android Debug Bridge integration (which can send keystrokes).

These integrations are good at sending commands but can't receive status (ADB can but it requires polling). This project aims to fill this gap by pushing the status. Of course if you don't use Home Assistant or want to control your TV using MQTT exclusively then you need something else.

I genuinely just wanted to know if this was generally possible. This is by no means a request for that feature.
