Steps to reproduce

1. Setup users with adults given permission to approve, manage, and admin over each kid.
2. Kid checks off chore
3. Adult tries to approve chore in OpsCenter
4. Get error message saying "You are not authorized to approve_chores"

Issue description

Have double checked my user permissions in the configuration menu and I am allowed to approve and manage both kids but I still cannot get this to work

This is most likely something in your configuration considering it’s working for so many others. (Always a chance though)

Can you double check that the approver account in choreops is properly linked to the ha user? Also then also check when you approve that your logged into ha with the right account.

Also you can put the integration in debug mode so you’ll get some additional logging.

I should have also mentioned, try going into developer tools and find the approve button for the chore you are testing to see if that works. (This will isolate a dashboard issue from an integration issue). Additionally you can try clicking the chore on the kids dashboard which if claimed should allow you to approve from there instead of going into ops center.

Yes, I did double check that my account is linked and set to the matching HA user account. In dev tools, it gave the same warning as well. I am not sure what happened here, since it used to be working. I had enabled debug mode and the logs above were from the file it downloaded. It's super long, but here are the lines filtered out that contain choreops:

Short term, go into the general options config and enable the option that allows admin accounts to approve for anyone. (Assuming your account is an admin) then try that to see if it works. I'm traveling for a few days, so I can't dig into it, but hoping this will at least be a workaround.

Okay, that workaround has it working. Only downside is the account I use on our wall tablet is an admin account so I can use it to install updates, change settings etc.

So I will just double check behind our kids and make sure they aren't approving their own chores. Safe travels and look forward to hopefully finding a fix soon. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you just stumbled on the reason. I need to work through it in more detail to remember the specifics, but I'm almost certain this has to do with you running that tablet as an admin. Are you trying to also approve from the wall tablet too, or another device logged in with your account?

The envisioned approach for a shared wall tablet is a normal, non-admin user with kiosk mode enabled. Only claims happen on that device, no approvals since it is essentially anonymous access to ChoreOps. (There are some variations of this approach where both kids are tied to the normal wall user tablet too) Approvals would need to be happening from another device where you are logged into ha as the associated parent account.

Take a close look at this and let me know more specifics about how you are using it, then we can figure out if there is a better configuration or if this is really an issue.

I had thought of that, so I had also tried making my tablet's account a non-admin and still had the same issue, unfortunately. And yes, approval takes place from a separate admin account specifically linked to each parent.
