As of 19 Oct, this may or may not be the actual cause. It's @sourabhdesai 's guess for why it's not working. Will confirm shortly.

I was able to replicate this on my end and was able to find the issue by looking at the stack trace. Turns out its not the result of the backend being down.

It happens when the user hasn't marked any sections as ones that he/she has registered for. The current code assumes that there is at least one section that has been marked as registered. Currently throws a NullPointerException as a result of this assumption. Will have a fix for it soon.
