Is there a way for an endpoint to have a custom URI string?

Make it a connection string instead of an endpoint. One that is made from an endpoint.

A IResourceWithConnectionString can only have one ConnectionStringExpression property of type ReferenceExpression and it is not displayed on the dashboard anywhere.

And if these connection strings are from a container resource, I cannot make it not be a IResourceWithEndpoints.

I don't really understand this. You are looking to create a custom expression derived from endpoint properties, why not expose an extension method/property that does what you want?

That's what I'm doing. I could also create another GetEndpoint method that would handle that.

But none of these options shows the correct value in the dashboard.

So this is all about the dashboard? Nothing custom shows up in the dashboard (not even connection strings show up). Maybe the ask is about showing custom resource properties?

Not only about the dashboard, but also about the dashboard.

It's counter intuitive that the resource has endpoints, but the user cannot use GetEndpoint because it's in the correct format.

It's in the correct format. You don't get to decide how an endpoint is formatted by default. You can however use the parts of it to format it however you want.

You can go further and write a WithReference overload that is strongly typed and hides these details.

I think it's limiting assuming that a TCP or UDP endpoint always looks like a HTTP endpoint. Regardless of what I can do in Aspire to work around it.
