How to Execute Flatten?

I load the materials and the proper tool to flatten, but how do I actually make it perform the flattening? I step outside the radius and the glowy ball just spins around the area but nothing happens. What am I missing? Thanks for your help!

If you're trying to lower the terrain, is it full of stone? It needs space in its storage, and a pickaxe, to put dig terrain.
If you're trying to raise terrain, does it have any stone? It needs stone, and a hoe, to fill in terrain.

From the Thunderstore page:

To flatten terrain downward
Place the totem on terrain at the desired height.
Place fuel (wood/resin/coal) in your hotbar.
Look at the totem and press the hotbar number, from step 2, to select the fuel type.
Tap E to insert one fuel item or hold E to insert as many as possible.
Add a pickaxe by putting it in your hotbar and pressing that number while looking at the totem.
If the totem's stone storage is full press * on the number pad to eject it.

I loaded wood first. Then I tried to load resin, but could only put one in. Then I tried to load coal, it would only let me put in a few. I put the pickaxe in the hotbar and pushed the number as directed, and the pickaxe was loaded into the totem.

I also loaded the hoe, so it would flatten completely. At no time did I try to put stone in the totem, as I understand that you don't add stone to lower, but only when you want to raise the ground.

After receiving your reply, I went ingame, ejected fuel and re-deposited fuel in more or less equal portions, re-inserted the pickacxe and hoe. Hopefully this is better, but at the end of the day, what do I need to do to get the totem to go ahead and flatten the land? I don't see any tooltip or instructions anywhere that tell you what to do after the fuel and tools have been deposited... Do I wait for it to do it's thing? If so, how long? I just don't know what to expect because I don't see anything that tells me how to activate the totem to flatten the terrain...

If it's operating correctly too much stone, too little stone or the wrong tool are the only reasons it should spin without digging. If it's out of fuel or has no tool it shouldn't spin. So that suggests we are dealing with a bug.

Do any red error messages appear in the console?

Are you using the public test version? I've just tested that now and it doesn't seem to be working. The stable version does work for me.

There are red error messages in the console. I'm not that technical, so I don't understand those messages, but I'll post my log if I can figure out how to do so. I'm running a LOT of other mods, so that might be the source of the error. I'm guessing you'll be able to figure that out once I post the log... AGAIN THANKS SO MUCH!!

The only errors seems to be from another mod doing something with foot steps. It's possible that one of the other mods is conflicting with Plateautem without causing an error message. It might take me a while to narrow it down. Thanks for the log.
