Why

This package hasn't been maintained for a long time. The last commit was 5 years ago as of Nov 22, 20251. And there has been a lot of unresolved issues2 3 4.

Potential Risk

still depend on the library

Additional context

We already have zxing-cpp in the repository, which is actively maintained and also supports QRcode generation/parsing. A possible solution is to write a compatibility layer to provide qrencoder API through zxing-cpp. However, I'm unsure whether the parameters could be tuned as fine as qrencoder.

It'll be best to help upstream projects move away from the inactive projects.
