[BUG] Front end progress lags behind back end

Describe the bug
Front end progress updates seem to lag behind the back end ones. Not sure if this is slow processing or smt, might be a good idea to send at most 1 update / 0.1s or smt

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Run a simulation from front end
2. Observe back end console

Expected behavior
Should be at most 1 round trip time behind (Constant time, 0.5s at most really)
