Overview

We need to create a poll question to see who is interested in Open Source Data.

Action Items

  • Brainstorm at least 5 questions we can ask that we feel will engage LinkedIn users
  • Review questions with team and vote on three best questions
  • test questions with poll on Slack to General channel
  • take most successful question, prep LinkedIn post, get approval from Bonnie
  • Ask Bonnie to post
  • Leave post up for a week, and move on to next steps

Next steps:

  • create a template message to send to users who answered polls
  • reach out to people who answered the poll
  • collect and analyze information from their profiles

@hannahsgr Please add update using this template (even if you have a pull request)

Progress: "What is the current status of your project? What have you completed and what is left to do?"
Blockers: "Difficulties or errors encountered."
Availability: "How much time will you have this week to work on this issue?"
ETA: "When do you expect this issue to be completed?"
Pictures: "Add any pictures of the visual changes made to the site so far."

If you need help, be sure to either:

  1. ask for help at your next meeting
  2. put a "Status: Help Wanted" label on your issue and pull request
  3. put up a request for assistance on the #access-the-data channel.

Also, after reviewing current poll results, I will be modifying one option to make it more consistent with the rest.

What statement best describes your relationship with open-source data?
I love open-source data! I use it regularly
I’m somewhat familiar with open-source data
I don’t use open source data
I don’t use open-source data, but I would like to

The second option asks about familiarity with open-access data while the other options ask about usage. To make it more consistent and the options mutually exclusive (it is possible to be familiar with open-access data and have never used it) - I'll be changing the second option to - I have some experience using open-access data.

@hannahsgr The poll looks good, However I recommend adding some hashtags and @ message to increase its reach.

Hashtags we should use
#data-analysis #government-data #citizen-science #data-literacy #city-data #open-source #open-source-data

People we should at message in the post

code-for-america
code-for-all

Can you think of any that I left off?

Hannah has left the project, the last update from Slack is:
Hannah Sangra

Bonnie has approved the LinkedIn poll question, however, no details on how to access the LinkedIn account to make the post were provided. I think you’ll need to put in another request to Bonnie for that info. I did request that info in a Slack thread but I got no response.

@mxajPrice @hannahsgr The answers provided are too long to fit into linkedin's polling. The max length each answer option can be is 30 characters.
I love open-access data! I use it regularly (uses 43 - please shorten to 30)
I have some experience using open-access data (uses 45 - please shorten to 30)
I don’t use open-access data (uses 28 - this can stay the same)
I don’t use open-access data, but I would like to (uses 49 - please shorten to 30)

Please post this issue in the #admin channel after you revise

Also, please indicate the poll duration. The choices are

  • 1 day
  • 3 days
  • 1 week
  • 3 weeks

Sorry, something went wrong.
