"Playtime Linux support - Stage 1" is here

The new Helgobox pre-release 2.18.0-pre.1 adds experimental Linux support for Playtime! Both x64 and arm64 architectures are supported! 🎉

This is only the first stage of support, a second stage will follow in the future. In this first stage, the Helgobox App (which contains the Playtime user interface) can't run embedded into REAPER yet. But it can run outside of REAPER! Thanks to the new remote mode.

If you want to give it a try, here are the necessary steps:

1. Make sure you are using a recent REAPER version with ReaPack installed.
2. Install Helgobox for Linux using ReaPack and make sure to pick the pre-release 2.18.0-pre.1.
3. After restarting REAPER, enable the Playtime toolbar button in the welcome screen.
4. Click the Playtime toolbar button.
   • This will add a new Playtime track containing a fresh Helgobox plug-in instance.
   • On macOS or Windows, this would also open the Playtime user interface directly in REAPER! However, since we are only at stage 1 of Linux support, this part doesn't work yet. Instead, you will see a message that you need to use remote mode.
5. Now, carefully follow these instructions ("How to do it") to start the Helgobox App in remote mode.
6. Navigate to the Playtime page of the Helgobox app.

You will notice some warnings in the help panel on the lower right. Some of them are normal (and you can fix them by changing something in the REAPER preferences). Others are related to the Linux support not being complete yet.

The next (and probably final) stage of Linux support will be Stage 2.
