Request for new module/feature

I know it can be not related to current app directly but i always wished if there is a checkbox on the screenshot share menu to delete after sharing (i saw similar in magic os and hyper os) and it is very useful to have less messy gallery removing unneeded screenshots that is used once

My concept is that the current checkbox value should be remembered upon next screenshot share

If it is not possible or not suitable you can freely close this issue

thanks for the suggestion, this is actually pretty cool. screenshots you share once and never look at again just pile up

looked into it and it should be doable within the existing intentresolver hook scope. ill look into it but no promises

make sure to enable "System Framework" in the module scope and reboot for it to take effect

tbh it got a bit complex without a proper ui. the checkbox works but theres no way to configure the delay or the screenshot detection pattern. some roms save screenshots differently so the current regex might not catch everything

thinking ill add a settings app with a content provider for the prefs, way cleaner than injecting views into the share sheet. that way you could:

• toggle the feature on/off
• adjust the delay before deletion
• customize the screenshot filename pattern
• maybe add other stuff like quick share blocking

anyway give it a shot and let me know if it works for you. liked the idea a lot

My first impressions is very good,

I think you have to find something other than timer for detecting share, i think share is being treated either content:// or file:// idk if there is any way to detect the app is not using it anymore or not, because i tried sharing screenshot but took some time for selecting the contact and screenshot deleted before it shared

The position i would like to have option to keep it up in current position or under the image at the middle for easy access( i saw this in magic os and hyper os on the middle)

It is working now for screenshot without edit, if I edit the screenshot the checkbox won't appear

I wish also if there is another option to enable or disable the contacts in share menu within the app settings

I also wonder 🤔 if it is possible to customize the contacts on the menu manually

But overall great work !!

hey @hexman1999, thanks for testing and your feedback! been pretty busy so took a while to get back to this

for now i moved the checkbox centered below the preview so it doesnt overlap with the header, noticed some news apps do something similar with a checkbox to share the article link so it fits well there. also added a settings screen where you can tweak the delay, filename pattern, and toggle direct share on/off

will probably improve things more in a future release, thanks again for the feedback

The only issue i see for now is when editing screenshot then sharing, the checkbox won't appear

hey @hexman1999, this is a known limitation right now
when you edit a screenshot, the editor creates a temp copy with a different URI so the module can't detect it as a screenshot in the share sheet. the checkbox won't appear for edited screenshots because of this. looking into a fix when i get some time

Share after edit not working for me mostly because sharing after edit gives different name like this image

Is trashcan a global thing? I mean it appears in gallery trash or special trash for this app only?, as it is not appearing in gallery's trash

I noticed that total commander (file manager) ex. If i open zip file containing pdf or image, if i open the image or pdf in external application either content:/ or file:/ using any app then closing that app total commander detects that the file is no longer needed and delete temp file automatically, i mean not based on time, it just detect that file is closed, can't this be implemented here?

I suggest making the default show checkbox as anyone newly installed the app can get confused that nothing appear he can think that the app is not working

I think The readme has to be updated to include the delete screenshot and new stuff and maybe having a telegram group or channel for easy communication

And there is maybe a ui problem in screenshot permently delete button

This depends on which image editor you're using. On stock Android (AOSP markup) or Pixel, edits are only a temporary copy for sharing and aren’t saved to the gallery, so only the original screenshot exists and that’s what gets deleted. I attached a screen recording showing this.

Your editor is saving the edited image as a separate file (share_*.png), so you end up with two files: the original screenshot and the editor’s copy. The module can delete the original, but it can’t track the editor’s copy since the filename and path depend entirely on the editor app. Which editor are you using? I may need to try it out.

The trash option uses Android’s standard MediaStore trash (the is_trashed flag). It’s the same system trash used by Google Photos, Files by Google, and many gallery apps. Android keeps the file for 30 days, then removes it automatically.

If you don’t see it in your gallery’s trash, that app might not support the MediaStore trash API. Check Google Photos or Files by Google, it should show up there.

Total Commander controls the full lifecycle of those temp files. It creates them, hands them off, and knows when the receiving app is done with them.

In our case we’re hooking into the share sheet from the outside, so we don’t have that control. To know when the target app is done, we’d need hooks in every possible receiving app or much deeper framework hooks, which is out of scope for this module. A delay-based cleanup is the most we can do here.

Good catch. The text was wrapping to two lines on smaller displays or larger font sizes, so i fixed it but going to trim the label as well (b39f54a)

Deleting ss after share as well some other very useful options in miui was preventing me from moving to AOSP and you removed one of these obstacles for me I already moved to AOSP few months ago but I was trying to adapt with these features missing

I just tested with AOSP Markup on two different phones running pure AOSP and it works as expected, same flow as the Pixel screen recording I shared earlier. The module finds the original screenshot through the editor’s temp copy and deletes it.

Can you walk me through exactly what’s happening on your end? Like what you see (or don’t see) after editing and sharing. Also which ROM you’re on would help narrow it down.

I considered that, but on higher density displays or with larger font sizes it would still look off. Keeping just the mode name is cleaner since the full explanation is already in the setting summary above it.
