API to provide upcoming events

As far as I can see at the moment upcoming events are generated on the client side. It would be really useful if this data was provided by the api.

I am guessing that this is done by the client at the moment because it is frequently updated and doing this on server for each client multiple times may be too much.

Also I am guessing #171 can be solved by making the api accept a parameter for the upcoming events window.
