Do we have a list of venue requirements somewhere? @mikeal Are you thinking Parkway for the central meeting area? |
That all depends, I haven't been to the OMNI building but from what I've seen it's a candidate as well. I'd also love small spaces like startup offices that would like to donate them, for the smaller unconferences that we do prior to the big events. |
I've contacted the Parkway to get their availability on the 7th - 13th. We still need some options for other events. We should check with all the Oakland startups about using their space for some events. Please help fill in more that I don't know about:

I booked the main "funky" theatre at the New Parkway for the whole week. They've offered to do free coffee the whole week for us at no charge :) I let them know that I may also need to book the other theatre some days as well but we haven't committed to it yet. |
hey all, re: the omni: it's a very large space at 4799 shattuck. sudo room is one of the groups at the omni and can be used for meetups/hackdays (looking into having the localwiki hack day there). additionally, there's a huge ballroom (room for at least 200), and i'm looking into the process for booking it now. it would be free. the only concern i have with the omni is that it's quite far from downtown. other potential places to ask for space:
also, @mikeal, for the localwiki hack day, is there a specific day that you had in mind? that will help with booking. |
@mk30 i think most of the hackathons will be on Saturday the 13th. That's probably the best day :) |
@mikeal thanks! do the other hackathons have venues solidified already? if so, what are they (the parkway?)? |
@mikeal do we have a venue with 3ish breakout spaces? |
nope, we have zero breakout spaces :) |
I ask as EWS traditionally has been lightning talks followed by a breakout sessions, BarCamp style. |
@mikeal the omni is available on 12/13, but i'm still worried that it's a bit far from the main event. are there locations for any of the other events on that day (besides the parkway)? also, are there any other spaces downtown that you've approached? (npm, pandora, etc.). i'd like to find out what places have already been approached/booked and if there's nothing, then i'll start looking. because i'd still prefer to have the event in the downtown area. |
Nothing at The New Parkway on the 13th. In fact, there is probably an event On Friday, October 17, 2014, Marina Kukso [email protected] wrote:

cool! can i go ahead and reserve the new parkway for some hours in the middle of the day on the 13th for localwiki? would be happy to share the space with others who are doing hackathons...if there's someone on similar topics (civic? open? science? i dunno). @maxogden do you have a venue for science hack day yet? if not, want to pair up at new parkway on the 13th? |
I should have been more clear, we don’t actually have the New Parkway rented on the 13th. It’s more expensive on the weekends and wasn’t a great space for hack days anyway.

For those that are in Oakland, let's put together a list of venues, their constraints and their costs.
I've been in touch w/ the New Parkway, these are their rates:
