This line seems to break things on my end, was wondering why it was added? @gipert

seems to cause a mismatch in the shape between the tcm and the other spm functions

because otherwise you count empty arrays in the line after? i don't really remember, i wrote this code long time ago. maybe @schwarzmario can help

According to git blame, the line was introduced by @rosannadeckert one year ago.
But it is only in effect if drop_empty is True, which we don't do (or am I wrong?).

But I also don't have a clue, sorry.

ufff, I was changing this file because it didn't work for the sparse-mode p13 data. but if this line breaks things we should remove it. However, it is indeed only applied when drop_empty is True, which we usually set to False, so I don't know why it still breaks things. drop_empty is also False for all p13 data processing, we never used it so far.
