Support for Gmail accounts

Hi,
I want to use emacs as my email client. In the past, I've used mu4e, notmuch and gnus. I don't want to download all of my email with mbsync or offlineimap, and I don't like my emacs freezing when making operations, like in gnus.

I found this repository a couple of days ago and I've been trying to use it, 'cause it looks like what I want, but I haven't been able to configure it. I see this message:

Cannot connect to server for , and not enough data for offline operation.

In the Messages buffer I get this:

Connection to imap.gmail.com:993 failed: IMAP authentication failed: Application-specific password required: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833 (Failure) (:authentication-failed)

I opened that link, but the less secure apps method will stop working in may. I just want to confirm if there is any workaround for this, to be able to use gmail accounts.
