Just a question about the name… #151

Hi Richie, thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the confusion here. Cap is a project I really respect, and the naming overlap was not intentional. When we chose “Capso”, it came out of a long brainstorming process around capture/screenshot tooling. I knew about Cap as an open source screen recording product, but I honestly did not realize that your website/domain, Cap.so, was also effectively part of the product name and could naturally be read or referred to as “Capso”. That was my mistake, and I’m sorry for the confusion. I can understand why this feels confusing from your side, especially with Cap listed in our comparison page. We definitely are not trying to imply any affiliation or borrow from your brand. Renaming the project immediately would be difficult for us at this stage, but we’re happy to make the distinction clearer. For example, we can add a note that Capso is not affiliated with Cap / Cap.so, and make sure our README/comparison refers to your project clearly as “Cap (cap.so)”. Really appreciate you asking directly and kindly. Happy open source, and thanks for building Cap. |

Hello, I'm the creator of Cap (Cap.so). People regularly refer to us as Capso, since that's our domain and full product name... Cap.so. We've been operating for many years now.
I came across this project just now and I'm left a little confused as to why you chose the exact same name as us?
Any new open source screen sharing tools are awesome and I love to see them. Innovation through open source is awesome. Just a little unsure on the way you have chosen pretty much our exact name here. I'm sure it wasn't deliberate, but I thought I'd reach out and just check since you have us in the comparison page in your readme.
Cheers and happy open source!
