Server is down

Sent an email and a tweet but I'm still paying and the server has been down since 10/27 or so, with no emails since then.

@yuletide had a moment to look at the logs - seems like Heroku decided to upgrade postgres to v12, which is causing this error: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/58763542/pginvalidparametervalue-error-invalid-value-for-parameter-client-min-messag

From what I can tell in that issue, should be able to resolve by bumping activerecord (and anything else that requires a bump due to activerecord bump - probably will just bump rails) from 4.1.7 to >= 4.2.6. Can't promise a resolution today, but I will get things working by next week. Just gotta dust off the cobwebs a little bit, been a while since I worked with Ruby 🤓.

Yeah it's the same issue - issue connecting with the PG DB

Just checking in here to see if there are any updates to this issue? I realize that dayjot is not your primary focus @marbemac , but hearing a status update and potentially a fallback plan to get users their data would ease my mind.

Hi folks, apologies for the delay here. Spent a good chunk of this weekend just trying to get things working locally - went 7 years with no downtime, revisiting after so long was an interesting experience to say the least. Really eye-opening just how much progress has been made in the Node/Ruby ecosystems since Dayjot was originally written (node 0.10 🤯)!

Things should be up and running again - please let me know if you notice any continuing weirdness. I'll leave this issue open for a while longer just to be sure.

On the positive side, this exercise got me thinking, and re-writing Dayjot has moved towards top of list of fun side hacks to consider in 2022, it needs some love 😄. In particular, exploring web3 / blockchain concepts seems exciting due to the distributed nature + privacy benefits that I think would couple very nicely with a journaling app like Dayjot.
