MongoDB Atlas

Atlas is a great platform for learning and experimenting with Mongo.

It allows anyone who wants to indulge in this training to have access to a database regardless of their platform. They don't even need a terminal at the end of the day (although we advise that they do have one)

Problems it solves

Currently these labs are written in a particular way because of environment constraints. Could we implement an atlas cluster for that specific environment and then add an Atlas piece to this so that it is a more cross-platform training.

By removing Mongo from the existing environment to Atlas we also reduce admin overhead on that front.

Atlas is great idea! Especially when the students want to run Read Operations against the collections which is a bulk of their learning.

As far as multiple Write Operations go, MongoDB offers various modes to handle concurrency which we can configure but I think it could cause confusion among the students.

I'm up for exploring the idea of using Atlas in conjunction with them setting up the Mongo databases on their local machines. It'll teach them both methods which will make for good exposure.
