Question about limiting intellisense / extension cache size on Windows 11

I regularly try to prune my system to save some disk space. And I have more than once deleted the entire cache folder for the extension. And now again it is sitting at 19.9GB!

Is there any way to limit the size of this vscode-cpptools folder to something like 5GB or lower so I don't have to prune it manually? Some of the caches are more than 1 year old.

@gudnimg There is no setting for pruning the workspace .db files. You could file a feature request for that or I could change this discussion to a feature request. We have a C_Cpp.intelliSenseCacheSize that limits the .ipch size.

Feel free to turn it into a feature request. Any improvements would be appreciated. Unfortunately I can’t help contributing a fix myself as I have no experience in developing vscode plugins or any Typescript stuff.

@gudnimg The change would most be in our closed source cpptools process (other than potentially some Typescript settings work).

The problem we'd have with a setting for this would be that different workspaces can change the folder where they store the database, so we'd only be able to apply the setting on a per-workspace basis. This means that if you use the default storage location, the setting would work as expected, but if you have different storage locations for different workspace folders, you would see the size limit multiplied by the number of storage paths you use across all workspaces.

Also, since you never know how big a database for a given workspace might be, a safer approach might be to have the setting check the timestamp of the databases if finds and prune the ones that haven't been used in X months, or something like that.
