Please confirm these before moving forward

  • I have searched for my issue and not found a work-in-progress/duplicate/resolved issue.
  • I have not been informed if the issue is resolved in a preview version of the winget client.

Category of the issue

Installation issue.

Brief description of your issue

Installing this package requests admin credentials.

Adding scope --user gives the error No applicable installer found; see logs for more details.

There is additional information on this in this winget issue I incorrectly raised.

Steps to reproduce

winget install --id=Posit.Quarto -e

Actual behavior

Requests admin credentials

Expected behavior

Installs for user without requiring admin credentials (as it does by default when using the installer)

The manifest probably only needs ElevationRequirement: elevationRequired added.

WinGet has some issues handling the MSI installers that support both user-wide and machine-wide installations. See: microsoft/winget-cli#3011

Anyway it will be mitigated in #224085.
