build-test fails for macos-latest

A recent PR (#3177) yields a failing build test on macos-latest, is there any way to make it work?

It looks like the actions/cache@v4 github action failed.
Might be related to actions/cache#1603 or actions/cache#1246 which appear to be spurious errors.

Otherwise your failing CI run and my succeeding CI run from #3173 look almost identical (macOS 15.7.1 vs macOS 15.7.2).

To rerun CI you could:

1. ask mthom to re-run CI (there should be a button somewhere)
2. close and re-open the PR
3. push a commit
   • make some changes and commit & push them
   • push an empty commit git commit --allow-empty
   • rewrite the latest commit git commit --amend --no-edit --force-with-lease push it

Oh, it looks like #3179 also encountered this error though given that it is an error in the actions/cache github action I don't think there is anything we can do about it besides reporting the problem upstream and waiting for a fix. If this takes too long to be fixed we could also remove that action from the workflow (disabling caching in turn).

It looks like this is a problem with the github actions runner image see actions/runner-images#13341

The broken runner image has been rolled back by github.
The easiest way to re-run CI on the affected PRs would be to close and re-open them.

I don't expect them to have the required insight. And even if they could re-run all failed jobs that used the broken image that would likely waste a bunch of CI hours, as the failure might be unrelated or the PR might have been merged already using a workaround or simply overriding the CI failure.
