Automated CI failed due to check-docs. Similar to failure in #1760 (comment).

Likely related to release of sphinx-autodoc-typehints v3.1.0.

I set up a new venv with Python 3.11, ran ./devel/regenerate-developer-api-docs, and I see the changes flagged in failing job.

I'll push up the changes in a PR.
