Why this Utopia Map Logo?

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed that the icon for our map feature is a globe. To me, a map is simply a map—so I’m a bit puzzled by the choice of a spherical symbol. Is there a particular rationale or higher-level design guideline behind this?

Wouldn’t a more map-specific icon help make the function clearer to users? I’d love to hear your thoughts or any background on this decision.
