Move development to codespace compatible devcontainer #146
Description
As of April 2025, GitPod will no longer provide free hosted development environments.
Let's move to VS Code/Codespace compatible Dev Containers.
Dev Containers is an open standard that is independent of Codespaces and even VS Code. So if you want to run it locally with say Jet Brains, you can do that. This would hopefully allow us to make use of GitHub's free hosting, but be prepared to move off of it if GItHub nerfs their free tier.
