Problem
I run on a modern Mac with a Retina display, and will frequently paste screenshots directly from the ⌘⇧4 shortcut into other apps.
These screenshots are PNG images (at least, unless you change the system-wide screenshot format, which is not a well-supported tweak). Because of the large resolution and simplistic PNG compression used, these screenshots are often rather large.
One recent example is 1.75 MB as the off-clipboard PNG, and 319 KB converted to a JPEG at 80% quality using Preview. About an 80% saving!
Solution
It would be lovely if Maccy could;
- Allow converting an image on the clipboard between formats, and/or
- Allow pasting an image as a JPEG (or other specified image format) with a keyboard shortcut or per-app setting
