What does the API Cap limit?

My assumptions are:

• For Radarr: 1 API call is a request sent to Radarr to search for the missing/upgradable item. I.e. 1 API call is 1 at Huntarr then 1 at Radarr then N at Prowlarr then (N*M) at Indexer, where N is the number of indexers used and M is the number of title variations searched.
• For Sonarr: the same but done on a per-season or per-episode basis (depending on your Missing Search Mode and Upgrade Mode)?

My questions:

1. Is that right?
2. Is the API limit I should set only dependant on the limits on my Indexers and not on anything else such as the *Arr backend SkyHook service?
3. Do I need to take SkyHook in to account as well?
4. What about if I have "Skip Series Refresh" and "Skip Movie Refresh" turned on? Is this still a thing? It's gone in 6.5.8.

I think I can answer several of your questions.

1. Don't know exactly. A dev familiar with the code would have to clarify these.
2. Yes, the limit is related to Indexers.
3. No.
4. Those skip features did not work as intended and were removed.

This is a very interesting question. Currently, I don't really get what this setting does. In my case all the arrs connect to prowlarr which perfectly handles API limits for all indexers. Not sure what huntarr is trying to do here.

I hope somebody can clarify.

I’ve asked myself the same question, especially with Sonarr. My current settings are:

Missing Search: 2
Missing Search Mode: “shows”
API Limit: 100
Sleep: 60 minutes

So, I start the process, and what happens is that by the 2nd or 3rd cycle, an overcap is already displayed:
API: 590 / 100

My assumption is that with the setting “Missing Search: 2,” it’s equivalent to selecting a series and clicking “Search all episodes.” As a result, two series with all episodes (in the worst case, more than 300) are searched without respecting the API limit or stopping the search in Sonarr.
In the log, it says “cycle finished,” but the search process in Sonarr continues for quite a while for all episodes of those series.
