Skip 1.5.0：Swift Android SDK version could not extract version from skip

When I upgraded to Skip 1.5.0 and ran skip checkup --native, I encountered the following error:

$ skip checkup --native

Of course, I have already run the following commands:

$ brew install skiptools/skip/skip
$ skip upgrade
$ skip android sdk install

Even after reinstalling Skip, the same error occurs.

Apologies for that — it was a glitch in Skip 1.5.0. If you can skip upgrade to 1.5.1, please try skip checkup --native again and let us know if you still have the issue.

The build succeeded, but even after running skip android sdk install, I still get [!] Swift Android SDK version 6.0.3 (< 6.1.0).
Is this a problem? I have Xcode 16.3 installed.

Is the issue that $ skip android sdk install didn't install version 6.1.0?

Yeah, I'm guessing that you had tried an earlier release of Skip's native mode, when we were using 6.0.3? We don't yet have a mechanism for upgrading the Android SDK, so for the time being you'll need to remove it manually and then update it:

brew remove [email protected]
brew install [email protected]

If that works, please try running skip checkup --native again and let us know if it succeeds.

I couldn't solve it with just the suggestions you gave,
but I was able to successfully run $ skip checkup --native!

First, I deleted the following:

• /Users/userName/Library/org.swift.swiftpm/swift-sdks/swift-6.0.3-RELEASE-android-24-0.1.artifactbundle
• android-platform-tools
• [email protected]

Then, after reinstalling Skip, it worked.

$ brew install skiptools/skip/skip
$ skip android sdk install
$ skip checkup --native

Looking the last error in that log file I see:

Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Unsupported class file major version 68

That's a very odd error, it almost sounds like it is being run with an older Java version, despite skip checkup reporting that your have 24.0.1 installed. Do you happen to know if you have some older version of Java installed?

Maybe try deleting your ~/.gradle folder and trying skip checkup again? It will re-download dependencies so it will take a while, but it might reset some previously-cache version of the jars that may have caused the error.

For the system Java wrappers to find this JDK, symlink it with
sudo ln-sfn /usr/local/opt/openjdk/libexec/openjdk.jak/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/openjdk.jdk

The issue is that your Homebrew installation was carried over from an older Intel machine (I can tell because Intel Homebrew uses /usr/local and ARM-based installs use /opt/homebrew). The solution is to remove Homebrew completely and re-install it, and then re-install skip. Once you've done that, skip checkup should pass.

Can you check to see if the folder at ~/Library/Android/sdk/ exists? It should have been setup when Homebrew installed the Android SDK, but if not, you should be able to install it by launching Android Studio.
