Hi there.. I have 3 pcs at home, all with Ubuntu 20.04: a dell hybrid with a French keyboard, a mini-pc with US remote keyboard and a laptop with Italian keyboard.
Only the last system works, in the other two systems when I type a digit nothing happens (but arrows and other keys work).
I did try to install from source, but the I can't install t4k_common.. :-/

Same issue on my Macbook Air 11" (A1465) with Edubuntu 23.04.
I observed that the issue occurs almost every time when run from the menu launcher, and does not occur when run from the terminal. I worked around the issue by updating the .desktop file to run within gnome-terminal.
On my install, the file is at /usr/share/applications/tuxmath.desktop.
I changed the Exec line to run from a gnome-terminal: Exec=gnome-terminal -- tuxmath. Note that changing to Terminal=true didn't help.
With this workaround in place, a new terminal flashes briefly when launching tuxmath from the menu, but otherwise doesn't interrupt or affect game play.
Note that my system has both English and Chinese Input Sources installed, although switching between them does not influence the issue, and the issue remains present on an account with only the English input enabled. @sylvaticus has multiple keyboard types, so perhaps is using multiple language inputs as well and this may be related to the issue.
