Shinigami-ZT is an agent-oriented operating system security framework built on the principle that no process, user, or resource should ever be implicitly trusted — not even by the system itself. Inspired by the Zero Trust security model and aligned with NIST ZT and AI RMF frameworks, Shinigami-ZT deploys a team of autonomous agents that work in real-time to continuously verify, enforce, monitor, and audit every action happening on the system.
Traditional operating systems operate on a "trust but verify" model — once you're in, you're largely trusted. Shinigami-ZT kills that assumption entirely. Every process that spawns, every user that authenticates, every resource that gets touched — must pass through an agent-governed decision pipeline before being permitted. If it doesn't pass, it doesn't proceed.
The framework is built around four specialized agents coordinated by a central orchestrator. The Identity Agent validates the legitimacy of processes and users at spawn time and continuously re-evaluates trust scores throughout their lifecycle. The Policy Agent enforces least-privilege rules dynamically, translating human-readable YAML policies into OS-level enforcement via AppArmor. The Anomaly Agent establishes behavioral baselines for all running processes and flags deviations that match known attack patterns — including privilege escalation, lateral movement, sudo abuse, and fileless malware signatures. The Audit Agent maintains a cryptographic hash-chained log of every decision made by the system, making tampering detectable and traceable.
All four agents report to a central Orchestrator that collects their verdicts, makes final allow/deny decisions, and triggers automated responses — from simple alerts to full process termination and isolation — without requiring human intervention.
Shinigami-ZT is designed not just as an academic project, but as a real, extensible foundation for OS-level Zero Trust enforcement. The architecture supports future enhancements including ML-based anomaly scoring, SIEM integration, container security extension, and remote policy management via REST API.
