GENERAL

  • Is this mod compatible with the latest HOI4 update, 1.14.* Avalanche? Yes.

  • Is this mod compatible with the latest DLC, Trial of Allegiance? It is, yes!

  • What's this "Sanguis in Harenis" all these people are talking about? It is the name of our next major update. Ars Belica (AB): 0.4.0 (Current) Terra Slavica (TS): 0.3.0 (previous) Ver Tersus (VT): 0.2.7 (previous) Pax Orientalis (Pax): 0.2.5 (previous) Deus Ex Machina (DeM): 0.2 (previous)

  • Can I run other mods with EoaNB, like AI mods, Graphics mods, etc.? End of a New Beginning is a full conversion mod that rehauls many of the graphics and mechanics of the game. We cannot promise compatibility with any other mod, even ones claiming to be sub-mods of our own.

  • Why is it that other players have access to content that I do not? You are probably using the Steam version; it can be more than a few months out of date at times, as only major bug fixes or massive content updates are posted to steam. Our GitHub version is up to date with the latest developer patches.

  • Which countries have focus trees? Will have its own focus tree? Eventually, all countries will have some unique tree/content but it is a matter of time, but for now: a lot. Here's a list that we will continue to update: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IiDiAkAsaYwTM8Nmm1_d_t5YJtdgAueb1B7nNx-La1s/edit

  • Will you include genocide in any way? This is a topic we have not internally made a formal statement on; but currently, for all atrocities, the consensus is that we will A) not allow players to influence it happening directly, and B) let it have no positive effects on the player's nation.

UPDATES

  • When will the next Steam update be released? No promises. We prioritize quality and quantity first, not arbitrary schedules.

  • Why does EoaNB update so infrequently on Steam? We like to preserve Steam uploads to more polished, optimized, and stable builds with complete content. Currently, the mod is in heavy development, and many mechanics and systems are not yet finished. If you are interested, however, to play dev patches, refer to the GITHUB DOWNLOADING portion of the FAQ.

  • What are #git-updates showing? #git-updates is a live log displaying the content our devs are pushing.

  • How far is current development? The current time period in focus is 1857-1885. Many of the major powers as well as regions like Europe and Asia have been fleshed out, but much of the world is still currently in heavy development.

  • How will you handle <event/system that wouldn't apply until the 1900s>? Our current focus is on the 19th century, and while the future is on our minds, they aren't on the whiteboard yet. Currently, development is centered on the timeframe 1857-1885, so please leave specific questions at the moment to this timeframe.

  • Will you implement <random alternate history writer's world>? This depends greatly. Alternate history novels often make giant strides in historical logic to make the story fun; which isn't a problem for novels but would be for a mod that aims for historical accuracy. Some flavor events pay homage to some inspired scenarios, but not a word-for-word scripted event.

  • How will you handle historical events and their accuracy? Some parts of an event that are its core (it's a rebellion, skirmish, etc.) will hopefully be a part of the core game. The details, however (it's a rebellion led by a crazy man with a claymore and longbow) will be generalized and randomized, much like EU4 handles it. If it requires too many resources (new states, a whole FT), the details will probably be omitted.

GITHUB

  • What is GitHub? GitHub is a central place for dev teams to store their coding projects. It is a useful tool that allows multiple people to work simultaneously on a project and does all the messy work of keeping track of versions, changes, and conflicts.

  • How does GitHub pertain to me, the player? Our updates on Steam are few and far between. The wait can be tough on some. If you are interested in using the latest dev patches of our mod our developers are splicing together, the download link is publicly available on GitHub!

  • How do I install the GitHub version? Here's a video showing how to install the GitHub version of the mod (refer to the question below if you are unsure which download pertains to you). The second link is for a slightly outdated video on the same topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00UqzQT8W68

  • What branch/version of the GitHub repository should I download from? The main branch that players download from are is our 'main' branch. 'main's our branch used for daily development. Content there is unoptimized and incomplete at times, but it is often months ahead in content. If you are unsure which version is right for you can ask in #ask-a-dev. Download from other branches only if you know what you are doing.

MECHANICS

  • What does this new system/mechanic do and how does it work? Most of our main systems are documented inside the in-game wiki (WIP). Click the "?" button in the top right corner of your screen (next to the world tension).

  • Help! My Political Stability is low! How can I raise it? Once a year an event triggers asking you to hold a speech, which option to pick in order to increase PS depends on your country's ideology (check the in-game wiki). Additionally, each passed law in the parliament also gives you +1 PS. Country-specific focuses, events, or decisions may also influence PS.

  • Is there a console command to increase Political Stability? "event pssystem.17" will give you +2 PS.

  • What is this "DCI" and how do I lower it? DCI stands for "Detrimental Colonial Impact." It represents how detrimental policies by colonizing/invading forces have affected the region. This includes the suppression of native peoples and slavery. You can't do anything to manually reduce it whenever you want. There are, however, events that will appear and some focuses that will allow you to either increase or decrease DCI.

  • Why am I being junta'd by my own military every once in a while? A junta appears if you let your Military High Command (MHC) get too powerful. Disable or fire your military advisors and let the power level of your high brass sink. Check the in-game wiki for more info.

  • The game won't let me research Colonialism!/How do I become a colonial power? Colonizing Africa is locked behind the Berlin Conference (which fires in the 1880s) and is restricted to a select list of European majors as well as the Quinine tech found in the climate section of the Infantry research tab. If you don't want these restrictions applied to you, a suggestion for bypassing our requirements is unlocking the Colonialism tech using the 'research_on_click' command/cheat. That first tech should allow you to participate in the Scramble for Africa.

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Why does the GitHub version lag so much? Currently, development is currently focused on outputting as much content as quickly as possible. Many systems/mechanics are yet to be optimized. Yes, we are aware that for the first 2-3 years loading up game saves takes a long time! We are aware of these issues and have them on our to-do list! If you haven't read the startup event and the game struggles to keep up, you might want to "Unite Africa". The said option is found on the second page of the startup menu.

  • The game crashes! What do I do?! Calm down, and let us know what happened in #troubleshooting. See the pinned post on how to report a crash inside said channel. A popular bug is the "Calculating Naval Distances" crash that affects many overhaul mods like our own. If you are crashing on this message while trying to load in (or "Smuggling Opium"), try starting the game with the "-opengl" Steam launch option.

  • The mod disappears from my mod folder! Make sure to uncheck the 'Clear Cache' checkbox when starting up the game again after it crashed. The launcher also backs up said cache (including deleted mods) inside the /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/ directory.

  • Why can't I train units? A handful of nations in the mod cannot train due to technical historical reasons. The most commonly asked question is "why can Prussia not build or edit divisions?" This is due to the political climate between the Prussian miilitary and political leaders at the time. To train or edit division templates, you must first complete your Army Reforms and win the Austro-Prussian War.

JOIN THE TEAM

  • How can I contribute to the development of the mod? Thanks for considering helping out! Every step helps us in the long run. Please sign out one of these Google Forms here to become a fair square dev of our mod, which gives you access to our GitHub repo (after a bit of evaluation), and our development Discord channels. See this linktree to view all currently available application forms: https://linktr.ee/eoanb

  • I don't think I'll be able to help out often. How can I help? It's fine! Most of our devs help out when they're comfortable with their time, and we never push devs to put working on the mod ahead of life things.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Do you have a Patreon? Yes, we do! And we adore your support! Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/mod_eoanb

  • What is your current main theme called? Piano Concerto No. 1 by Tchaikovsky.

  • What’s the difference between Official and Redux? Redux’s timeline is from 1857-2050, and to achieve this goal, they aim for a sandbox play-style with a priority of generic mechanics over unique content Currently, they have institutions, a working but not completed economy system, revamped tech tree, among other minor notables. Our timeline is from 1857-1930, and we aim for a choose-your-own-adventure play-style, with a priority of unique content for nations. Currently, we have greatly expanded content for Russia, Italy, South America, the Balkans, among other minor notables.
