You said that this was your final report for the Research Variant Parts grant, meaning that it was finished. However, I did not fully understand the future of the prototypes. |
The next step is an enhancement proposal for this kind of functionality. The prototypes serve as an inspiriation and to understand various design decisions. They are not meant to be merged as is in FreeCAD. I hope they will form a basis on which the community can make a good decision on how to move forward. For example, how computing shapes is done has already been discussed in the context of parallelism. Does this answer your question? |
Actually yes and no. The report here is quite correct as a monthly report. However, I think a final report is needed to finish the project. After all, this was a research project and this research should be documented in some way. The point here is to think as if you are not going to be involved in the next step. The research is quite adequate but scattered. I think you should present all the results together with the general discussions in the prototypes etc. |
I agree that the reporting is scattered, but this was part of the setup all along as you can read in the grant proposal. The fact that the reporting is done in two forum topics (Open Discussion and Developers Corner) presents some issues for those (mainly developers) who want to have the whole overview. However, I believe that for users that just want to know about the concepts and what is possible, it was a very good scheme to have the user-specific reports in the Open Discussion without being overwhelmed by technical details.
This seems to imply that the research was not documented (in some way). In my opinion the project was very well documented and well beyond what I promised initially in the proposal. I also believe this is very difficult to deny. Regarding a final report, I believe that the index post that I presented in the grant report captures the body of knowledge as a result of this project very well. @Reqrefusion, could you please let me know if this is satisfactory for you as well? |
Of course, I cannot request a report that exceeds what was formally requested in your offer or as FPA. I am also individually requesting the final report from you here. I believe there should be a de facto document indicating that your project is completed. I certainly agree with you regarding the adequacy of the forum post. Of course, if it can be formatted. I see great benefit in somehow transforming this post and adding it here. |
