Beth makes things using code π» , sound π and imagination π . She is a Software Engineer at the BBC currently working on iPlayer. Prior to joining the Beeb, Beth was working at an awesome company called Perlego and if you like the idea of having access to over 1 million academic books, you might consider becoming a member (or even joining the awesome team). Before moving into full time engineering, Beth held the position of Curriculum Lead at futureproof where, amongst some other buzzword-activities, got to make apps about things like cats π» and Game of Thrones βοΈ in order to communicate the good news about technology to people from all walks of life who are looking to get into the tech industry. Beth is [ located ] two abstractions away from reality. π But also London, UK. And sometimes Cornwall. In the future she hopes to spend more time by the ocean in the sun βοΈ , coding and playing ukulele. Beth's [ background ] is in music πΌ and audio. She has a Bachelors degree in playing the recorder and a Masters in Music Technology and Innovation which have seen her walking π the Camino de Santiago as a documentary audio engineer, designing playback systems for equestrian cabaret π , touring with various Circus πͺ companies as a musician and other unexpected fun. Beth was awarded a Women Take Tech Scholarship to study π Fullstack Web Development and has enjoyed the luxury of living within four walls π‘ ever since.
