If the socket has been closed by the server, the dispatcher may need to finish cleaning itself up before being destroyed to avoid race conditions in some cases (currently only observed on Windows when using Node.js 22). Calling close() ensures the cleanup is done and then runs destroy() after the fact.

just doing this to run the unit tests on windows
